Established in 1963 the company has 47 years experience in the low level aviation industry. During the 47 years of operation the company has operated 19 different types of aircraft, from the De Haviland Tiger Moth through to the 1700HP Airtractor 802..
Currently the company owns and operates 10 aircraft year round and contracts the aircraft into the states of NSW, QLD and WA. The aircraft and pilots conduct agricultural and fire suppression operation in these states and the company has developed a firm customer base of over 300 companies and individuals. The company's established success is the rapid deployment of aircraft, crew and support equipment to rural and remote locations nationwide, for a variety of tasks with absolute customer focus.
Eight staff are year round employed by Dunn Aviation with an additional 12 personnel during the fire season.
To maintain the company's service level and cope with the seasonal fluctuation in demand for large capacity turbine aircraft, the company has formed bilateral aircraft hire agreements with several companies from the eastern states.
With a vast portfolio of nationwide experience in the realm of ultra low level flight coupled with state of the art equipment operated by hand-picked highly experienced key personnel, the company has proven itself in the field as a responsive, no fuss, environmentally sound company continually attracting repeat business.
Major Company Achievements
- Awarded the Western Australian Government, Conservation and Land Management Department's Aerial Fire Suppression Contract for a five year term providing Aircraft, Crew and Management throughout the South West Land Division of Western Australia.
- Selected on a sub contract basis to supply aircraft & crew to a Federal Government protection agency. The service requires Dunn Aviation to be on standby 24 hours, 365 days a year and respond to a maritime pollution threat anywhere on the Australian coastline within 30 minutes. Dunn Aviation has held the Western Australian sector of this contract since its introduction to the state.
- Supplied and operated two of the three aircraft when the Western Australian Government launched “Operation Firebird” in 1996
- Awarded a three year contract the following year in partnership with Ian Dunn for two fire suppression aircraft on five minute airborne emergency response. The aircraft were based at Perth International Airport for Aggressive Initial Attack water bombing on wildfires during the summer & autumn period.
- Operated the company's AT-602 on fire suppression duties during 2001/02 for the NSW Rural Fire Service. During the following winter that AT-602 aircraft was upgraded to an AT-802F. This aircraft was then utilised during the devastating wildfires on the eastern seaboard in summer 2002/03.
- Flew over 500 low level sorties treating more than 145000 hectares with three aircraft and seven staff in an Agriculture WA program to control a locust plague in the year 2000 and again for another plague in 2001. All missions which took a considerable planning effort between Dunn Aviation, Agriculture WA and farmers were completed successfully with no environmental impact throughout the West Australian Wheat belt.
- Independently audited and obtained 'Approved' status to operate on revegetation projects conducted by a multi-national mining company in North West WA.
- Selected by Agriculture WA in 1997 to contribute to the initial application trials of the ARGT (annual ryegrass toxicity) inoculum.
